Everest design system

Design operations

I lead the operationalization and adoption of Ceridian's design system.

As Design Operations Program Manager for the Design system, I shape the decision-making processes through which components are prioritized, designed and developed, ensuring quality and efficiency. I also coordinate the partnerships and work cross-functionally with teams to create champions, stewards and advocates for the Design system.

VP of Design: Meghan Sullivan

Design Director: Drew Toy

Design Operations Program Manager: Aletheia Délivré

Building partnerships across the organization

I led the launch and socialization of a Partnership program to create a sense of stewardship between the Design system team and the entire design organization. During these sessions, teams would work collaboratively to co-create foundational items like design principles, as well as iterate on components and patterns for the system.

Contribution model

We baselined a decision tree model for design and development teams looking to contribute a component to the Design system.

We also laid out an "innersourcing" process for the Design system team to know how to work with other teams to create components, and vice versa.

Mapping the adoption journey for teams

Working with many cross-functional teams across Product, Design, Engineering, Content and Marketing, I mapped the 7-phase adoption journey for teams onboarding into Ceridian's design system.

Setting adoption achievement levels

Jesse and I outlined an incentive level-based program to track teams' progressive adoption of the Design system. We defined the tasks, components and guidelines that were to be included at each adoption achievement level, and worked on the ground with Managers, Product owners, Engineers and Designers to implement adoption into stories and sprints.

Onboarding documentation 101

In our early adoption phase, Jesse (Sr. Product Design Architect) and I defined the information architecture and content strategy for an MVP onboarding documentation site servicing 200+ designers and developers across Ceridian.

Unifying the design process for Design system team

When I joined Ceridian, the Design system team did not have a shared process for designing and creating components entering into Everest.

Through a series of 7 workshops, I led the co-creation a unified design process, operationalizing and aligning as a team on the stages, roles, outcomes and tools.

We've been able to share our process openly to our Product and Technology organization and integrate this into our Onboarding documentation for higher transparency and visibility across Ceridian.

"Backstage operations" of a lasting design system

A simple visual diagram that I drew to illustrate the backstage operations of a sustainable, thriving design system at Ceridian.

“Thanks to our work on the unification of our design process, I was able to show developers and feature designers how we design components on the Everest team.”
